Red Bear Doll (#17) is an original custom porcelain sculpture from a Bear Doll Collection. Each piece in this Collection has been painted in a unique and one of a kind way. It is inspired by my love of traditional folk dolls, Japanese Kokeshi dolls and Russian Matreshka dolls in particular.
 
The piece is a made using a special slip cast technique, by pouring liquid porcelain slip into a custom made plaster mold. Then, it is decorated with underglazes and fired to 3300 F (1200 C). Later, it was adorned with 22k gold luster (a thin layer of actual gold fused with glaze at 800 degrees Celsius).
